Seven’s Commonwealth Games Coverage Reaches 7.8 Million Australians in Opening Three Days
The Seven Network’s exclusive coverage of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games has reached 7.8 million Australians across Seven and 7plus Sport during the opening three days of competition, giving the broadcaster an early ratings win.
Since the Opening Ceremony on 24 July, the Games have delivered an average national prime-time total TV audience of 808,000, with an average audience of 355,000 across all dayparts.
Seven claimed the top spot among all networks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday across total people, viewers aged 25–54 and 16–39, as well as grocery shoppers, winning both broadcast and streaming audiences between 6.00am and midnight.
The Games have also driven strong growth for the broadcaster’s digital platform, with 7plus Sport recording an average audience of 57,000 over the first three days—an increase of 493 per cent compared with the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The biggest audience so far came during Sunday’s evening coverage, which reached 2.56 million Australians and attracted a national total TV audience of 964,000.
Seven’s Head of Commonwealth Games, Anna Stone, said the early success reflected strong audience interest in Australia’s performances, particularly in the swimming pool.
“Seven’s live, free and exclusive coverage of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games has captured the hearts and minds of Australians and delivered countless incredible moments, led by a gold rush in the pool,” Stone said.
“With a packed schedule of Australia’s most-loved medal events and the start of the highly anticipated athletics program, our coverage is already delivering great results for viewers and partners—and we are only just getting started.”
Among the early highlights were Sam Williamson’s gold medal in the men’s 100-metre breaststroke, Hani Watson’s emotional bronze medal and the Australian Diamonds’ victory over England in netball.
Seven’s Director of Sales, Television and Streaming, Katie Finney, said the Games were delivering audiences across both traditional television and streaming.
“After just three days, the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are a runaway hit with Australians, creating moments that draw the nation together in a way that only television can,” Finney said.
“The huge numbers for our expanded content across 7plus Sport clearly show that we are meeting our audiences where they are and ensuring our partners connect to, and engage with, people anytime and anywhere.”
Seven’s Commonwealth Games coverage continues nightly from 7.00pm, with live competition running through until 7.30am across the 10-day event. The broadcaster is also offering 15 live streaming channels and eight replay channels on 7plus Sport, alongside daily coverage across Sunrise, 7NEWS, 7NEWS.com.au and The Nightly.
With athletics now underway and Australia’s strongest medal events still to come, Seven will be hoping the opening weekend’s momentum continues through the remainder of the Games.
