Jacob Elordi Returns to Australian Cinemas as Ridley Scott’s ‘The Dog Stars’ Opens

Jacob Elordi’s remarkable Hollywood run continues this week, with the Australian actor returning to cinemas as the lead of Ridley Scott’s post-apocalyptic thriller The Dog Stars.

Now in Australian cinemas, the film places the Brisbane-born actor at the centre of another major Hollywood production following an increasingly diverse run of roles.

Adapted from Peter Heller’s 2012 novel, The Dog Stars takes place in the aftermath of a devastating pandemic that has wiped out much of the world’s population.

Elordi stars as Hig, a pilot who survives the outbreak but loses his wife, leaving him to navigate an increasingly dangerous world alongside a former Marine played by Josh Brolin.

Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce and Benedict Wong also feature in the cast, with Scott directing from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson.

For Elordi, the film represents another step in a career that has rapidly moved beyond the teen roles that first brought him international attention.

The Australian actor broke out globally through Netflix’s The Kissing Booth films before becoming one of the defining performers of HBO’s Euphoria as Nate Jacobs.

More recently, Elordi has moved aggressively into prestige filmmaking, portraying Elvis Presley opposite Cailee Spaeny in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla and starring in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn.

His performance as the Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein subsequently earned Elordi his first Academy Award nomination, further establishing the 29-year-old as one of Australia’s most prominent international screen exports. 

That momentum has continued throughout 2026, including his turn as Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights.

The Dog Stars now puts Elordi in the hands of one of Hollywood’s most enduring blockbuster filmmakers.

Scott’s career stretches from Alien and Blade Runner through Gladiator, The Martian and Napoleon, with the filmmaker continuing to direct large-scale productions well into his 80s.

For Elordi, who grew up in Brisbane before pursuing acting internationally, leading a Ridley Scott film marks another significant milestone in an increasingly formidable Hollywood career.
