‘Dalliance’ Launches on Paramount+ With Hugo Weaving, Heather Mitchell and David Wenham Leading Australian Ensemble

Paramount+ has launched its latest Australian original drama Dalliance, bringing together some of the country’s most established screen performers for a new six-part series.

The streamer celebrated the series’ launch at Sails on Lavender Bay in Sydney on Thursday night, with cast and creatives gathering ahead of its Australian debut.

Created by Heather Mitchell and Sarah Lambert, Dalliance stars Mitchell alongside Hugo Weaving, David Wenham and Georgie Parker, with all six episodes now available to stream on Paramount+.

The series centres on three longtime friends whose lives are disrupted when an unexpected event forces them to confront relationships, choices and secrets that have accumulated over decades.

Mitchell, an AACTA Award-winning actor whose Australian screen career has spanned more than four decades, serves as both a creator and producer on the series in addition to starring.

The ensemble brings together a considerable collection of Australian screen experience.

Weaving remains one of Australia’s most internationally recognised actors, having moved between major Hollywood franchises including The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings and Australian productions throughout his career.

Wenham has followed a similarly international path, with credits spanning 300, Elvis and The Lord of the Rings, while continuing to appear extensively across Australian film and television.

Two-time Gold Logie winner Parker rounds out the central cast, continuing a career that has made her one of Australian television’s most recognisable performers.

The series joins a growing slate of locally produced programming commissioned by Paramount+ Australia as international streaming services continue investing in Australian stories and talent.

That slate has recently included Fake, Last King of the Cross and NCIS: Sydney, alongside upcoming Australian productions including Who the Hell Is Hamish?, which recently wrapped filming in Queensland.

For Dalliance, however, much of the appeal lies in putting veteran Australian performers at the centre of a story concerned with characters and relationships later in life — an area of television often overshadowed by younger ensembles.

Its arrival also gives Mitchell an opportunity to move beyond performing and into creating and producing Australian drama herself.

With its cast spanning some of Australia’s most enduring screen careers, Dalliance represents another locally led production attempting to find an audience in an increasingly crowded streaming landscape.
