HBO and DC Set the Stage for a Batman Day Celebration in Sydney

Batman Day is set to be celebrated this weekend, on Saturday, September 19th. 2026 marks 87 years since the character first appeared, and DC and Warner Bros. are planning events across the world to mark the occasion.

Sydney, Australia is getting a particular spotlight (or Bat-Signal) shone on it, with HBO and Warner Bros. teasing a major event happening in the city on Saturday night.

On Thursday morning, an actor dressed as Batman was just spotted on top of the Sydney Opera House. The viral stunt was the first in a series of teases from HBO Max Australia setting the stage for their local Batman Day event.

Details from the HBO Max Australia Instagram page tease an event being held at 6pm this Saturday, September 19th, at the Sydney Opera House to celebrate Batman Day. It remains to be seen what that event will entail, so stay tuned to The Hollywood Reporter Australia to find out.

That’s not all DC has planned for Batman Day 2026. There are plenty of other ways for fans to celebrate. The centrepiece of the event this year is the launch of the comic book Batman of Two Worlds, a $2.99 one-shot arriving at comic shops worldwide on Saturday. It pairs an all-new mainline Batman story by Matt Fraction and Javi Fernández with a new Absolute Batman tale by Scott Snyder and Nick Derington, with a cover by Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta and Frank Martin.

Comic shops will also have free paper masks by Ryan Sook in four looks: classic Batman, Absolute Batman, Hush Batman and The Dark Knight Returns Batman. Five new hardcovers are also for sale: Batman Vol. 1: Daylight, Batman ’89 (with a digital code for the 1989 film), Batman: H2SH Volume One, The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition and Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham – The Deluxe Edition.

Retailers across Australia, North America, Latin America, Europe and Japan are marking the day with signings, cosplay contests, giveaways and charity drives. In Australia, Impact Comics in Canberra will have all the exclusive hardcovers, the new comic book and free masks, plus an appearance from a Batman cosplayer from 11am to 2pm.

In the U.S., Heroes & Fantasies in San Antonio is running photo ops and a fundraiser for ComicBooks For Kids; Dragon’s Lair in Austin has Patricia Peters, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Batman Returns stunt double, plus a Tim Burton Batmobile replica; and Neighborhood Comics in Savannah is holding a Gotham cosplay contest. Overseas, OVNI Press is throwing a free nighttime costume party in Buenos Aires, while Panini is backing shop events in Italy (including a Corrado Roi signing in Milan) and Brazil (with artist Alex Shibao).

Online, DC Universe Infinite is offering free-to-read Batman comics, including Absolute Batman #1–3 and the complete Wayne Family Adventures series in DC GO! vertical-scroll format. Linking a DCUI account to WB Games unlocks free Batcave props in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and new users can claim a 30-day Ultra plan trial.
