‘The Fox’ Sets Australian Q&A Tour Ahead of November Cinema Release
Dario Russo will be joined by Emily Browning, Frankie J. Holden, Heather Mitchell, Kim Gyngell and Peter O’Brien for a series of special event screenings of the acclaimed Australian dark comedy The Fox.
Madman Entertainment has announced a national series of Q&A screenings for The Fox, beginning in Melbourne on November 18 ahead of the film’s Australian cinema release on November 26.
Director Dario Russo will appear at selected screenings alongside cast members Emily Browning, Frankie J. Holden, Heather Mitchell, Kim Gyngell and Peter O’Brien, with further surprise guests expected to join the tour.
A formidable line-up of Australian comedians and entertainers has also been recruited to moderate selected Q&As, including Shaun Micallef, Luke McGregor, Rhys Nicholson, Nina Oyama, Wilbur Wilde, Gen Fricker and Michael Cusack.
The tour will take in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth, beginning at Cinema Nova in Melbourne on November 18 and continuing through November 28.
Described as a darkly comic folktale blending satire and surrealism, The Fox boasts an extensive Australian and international cast led by Jai Courtney and Emily Browning, alongside Damon Herriman, Claudia Doumit, Zlatko Burić, Frankie J. Holden, Heather Mitchell, Peter O’Brien and Kim Gyngell.
Sam Neill voices The Magpie, while Academy Award winner Olivia Colman provides the voice of the titular Fox. Miranda Otto also stars.
The film follows Nick (Courtney), the affable heir to a wealthy rural landowner, whose relationship with his fiancée Kori (Browning) is thrown into turmoil when he discovers she is cheating on him.
After capturing a rogue talking Fox (Colman), Nick is offered a peculiar bargain: spare the Fox’s life and she will help him save his relationship. The solution involves pushing Kori into a mysterious hole capable of transforming her into his idea of the perfect partner.
When Kori emerges seemingly everything Nick could want, her increasingly strange behaviour forces him to reconsider both his decision and his desire to change her in the first place.
The film has already enjoyed a successful festival run. The Fox was named among Variety’s eight best films at SXSW Austin and won Best Australian Director at the Melbourne International Film Festival. It also took out the GIO Audience Award for Best Australian Feature at the Sydney Film Festival and the Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature at the Calgary Underground Film Festival.
Filmed in Adelaide, South Australia, The Fox is a Causeway Films production with major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Orogen Entertainment, A-Up Duck Productions and the South Australian Film Corporation. It was financed with support from Flickstar, Kojo Studios and the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund.
Madman Entertainment will distribute the film locally, with Protagonist Pictures handling international sales.
