The acclaimed animated adventure, inspired by Filipino mythology and featuring the voices of H.E.R., Liza Soberano and Lea Salonga, will be available to buy or rent months ahead of its subscription streaming debut.

DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island is heading to Australian homes, with the critically acclaimed animated adventure set to make its digital debut on October 28 through Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

The film, which draws inspiration from Filipino mythology and culture, will be available to buy or rent on Prime Video, Apple TV, Fetch, Foxtel, Google TV and YouTube, months before its anticipated arrival on subscription streaming services.

Written and directed by Joel Crawford and Januel P. Mercado, the filmmaking team behind the Academy Award-nominated Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Forgotten Island combines a colourful, anime-inspired visual style with a heartfelt story about friendship, memory and the challenges of growing apart.

The story follows lifelong best friends Jo and Raissa, who are preparing to embark on separate paths in life. On their final night together, the pair discover a mysterious portal that transports them to Nakali, a mythical island populated by magical creatures drawn from the folklore of their Filipino families.

As they navigate the fantastical world in search of a way home, the friends discover that their memories are gradually disappearing, threatening to erase not only their past but their connection to one another.

The film features an ensemble voice cast led by Academy Award-winning musician H.E.R. and Filipino-American actress Liza Soberano, alongside Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Dolly de Leon (Triangle of Sadness), Dave Franco (The Studio), Jenny Slate (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On), Jo Koy (Haunted Mansion), Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians) and Lea Salonga, whose celebrated voice work includes Disney’s Mulan.

Produced by Mark Swift, Forgotten Island has attracted strong reviews and audience enthusiasm following its theatrical release.

The film currently boasts a 96 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, received an A CinemaScore from moviegoers and earned four-star reviews from both The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

Beyond its fantasy adventure, the film places Filipino culture at the centre of its storytelling, drawing on traditional mythology and folklore to create the creatures and landscapes of Nakali.

The filmmakers have also embraced an anime-influenced aesthetic, creating a distinctive animated world that blends cultural traditions with contemporary visual storytelling.

The Australian digital release will include approximately 60 minutes of bonus material at participating retailers, offering viewers a closer look at the film’s development, animation and cultural influences.

Among the extras is Tayo Na! The Making of Forgotten Island, which explores the creation of Nakali and its characters, while Friendship and Filipino Culture follows Crawford and Mercado as they travel through the Philippines to investigate the traditions that inspired the story.

Other features include Creatures of Lore, examining the film’s interpretations of Filipino mythological beings, and Friends for Life, in which H.E.R. and Soberano discuss the relationship at the heart of the film.

Additional material explores the film’s music, including a lyric video for “A Parallel World” by Filipino pop group BINI, alongside drawing tutorials and a feature-length commentary from Crawford and Mercado.

The bonus features will be available through participating digital retailers, including Prime Video and Apple TV.

Forgotten Island will be available to buy or rent digitally in Australia from October 28, 2026.
