The actor behind Pippin Took will reunite with fellow Middle-earth star Sean Astin as the pop culture convention prepares for Adelaide and Brisbane events.

Billy Boyd, best known for playing Peregrin “Pippin” Took in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has joined the guest lineup for Supanova Comic Con & Gaming in Adelaide following the cancellation of Karl Urban’s scheduled appearance.

Boyd will appear exclusively at Adelaide Showground on Sunday, November 1, marking his first Supanova appearance since 2011.

Urban, who portrayed Éomer in The Lord of the Rings films and currently stars in The Boys, has withdrawn from his planned Adelaide appearance due to commitments on an upcoming project.

Boyd’s addition strengthens an already substantial Middle-earth reunion at the convention, with fellow Hobbit Sean Astin, who played Samwise Gamgee, also scheduled to attend.

Other actors associated with Peter Jackson’s Tolkien adaptations include Kiran Shah, Bruce Hopkins, Jed Brophy, Stephen Hunter and Shane Rangi, while The Hobbit star Graham McTavish will appear exclusively at the Brisbane event.

Beyond his role in the Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings trilogy, Boyd is known for voicing Glen and Glenda in the horror sequel Seed of Chucky.

Supanova will take place in Adelaide from October 30 to November 1 before heading to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from November 6–8.

The conventions will feature an extensive lineup of film, television and gaming talent, including Highlander star Christopher Lambert, Firefly and Resident Alien actor Alan Tudyk, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Anson Mount, Wolf Creek actor John Jarratt and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman.

Brisbane-exclusive guests include The 100 star Bob Morley, The Lost Boys actor Jamison Newlander, American Ninja star Michael Dudikoff and Mad Max: Fury Road actor Nathan Jones.

The events will also feature a literary program, with Australian authors T.R. Napper and Stacey McEwan appearing in both cities. Adelaide’s lineup includes Christy Anne Jones, Braidee Otto and Alina Bellchambers, while Brisbane will welcome authors including Jaymin Eve, Amy Doak and Neal Shusterman.

Fans will have opportunities to meet participating stars through autograph sessions and photo opportunities, alongside the convention’s regular program of cosplay, gaming, comics and pop culture activities.

Founded in Sydney in 2002, Supanova has grown into one of Australia’s largest pop culture conventions, hosting events across six cities annually.

Tickets for both Adelaide and Brisbane are on sale now, with further information available at Supanova.
