Binge Extends NBCUniversal Deal, Securing ‘The Day of the Jackal,’ Peacock Series and Universal Films

The long-term agreement, commencing in 2028, expands Binge and Foxtel’s access to NBCUniversal programming and will bring Hayu to Foxtel set-top boxes.

Binge and Foxtel have extended their long-running content partnership with NBCUniversal, securing exclusive Australian rights to a slate of first-run scripted series alongside an expanded library of films, television franchises and channels.

The long-term agreement will commence in 2028 and gives Binge and Foxtel subscribers exclusive Australian access to first-run scripted programming from Sky Studios, as well as Universal Studio Group-produced drama and comedy series made for Peacock.

The deal comes as competition for premium international programming continues across Australia’s streaming market and represents a significant commitment to Binge following Foxtel Group’s acquisition by global sports streaming company DAZN.

Among the titles covered by the partnership is the new season of thriller The Day of the Jackal, alongside series including The PaperTedAll Her Fault and The Five-Star Weekend.

The agreement also significantly expands the NBCUniversal film catalogue available through the services, including titles from the Fast & FuriousJurassic ParkDespicable MeMinionsHow to Train Your Dragon and Bridget Jonesfranchises.

Binge and Foxtel will also retain multi-year Pay-1 rights to upcoming NBCUniversal theatrical releases, giving the platforms access to films during their first major subscription television window after theatrical and transactional releases.

On the television side, the agreement covers catalogue programming including The OfficeDownton AbbeyFriday Night Lights and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as well as what the companies describe as Australia’s largest collection of seasons from the Law & Order franchise, including selected seasons of Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

NBCUniversal’s Universal TV and DreamWorks channels will continue to be carried, while a new Universal Crime channel will also be introduced.

The deal extends into unscripted programming, with new seasons of franchises including Below DeckBelow Deck Mediterranean and The Real Housewives of Orange County included in the agreement.

NBCUniversal’s reality streaming service Hayu will also be integrated into Foxtel’s app offering from 2028, allowing subscribers to access the service through Foxtel set-top boxes.

Foxtel Group CEO Patrick Delany described the agreement as a “landmark moment” for the company’s entertainment business.

“NBCUniversal has long been a cornerstone of our entertainment offering,” Delany said. “This extension is a landmark, expanded partnership that secures a future slate of highly anticipated content.”

Delany also positioned the agreement as evidence of DAZN’s continued investment in Binge following its acquisition of Foxtel Group.

“By securing these sought-after premium rights, we have delivered a supercharged extension that confirms DAZN’s commitment to Binge and to providing Australians with the best entertainment from around the world,” he said.

NBCUniversal managing director Asia Pacific, TV Distribution and International Networks & Direct-to-Consumer Chris Taylor said the agreement built on a long-running relationship between the two companies.

“Foxtel Group has been one of NBCUniversal’s most valued partners for many years, and this long-term deal reflects both the strength of that relationship and our ongoing commitment to delivering premium film and television content that supports our clients’ businesses,” Taylor said.

“This agreement also deepens our footprint in the market directly, with Hayu joining the Foxtel app suite alongside our Universal TV and DreamWorks channels, and we’re especially excited to bring the new Universal Crime channel to life with Foxtel.”

The expanded NBCUniversal deal applies to both Binge and Foxtel subscribers.
