“Cradle Rock: Songs for Little Lives” features 11 original recordings, with all proceeds supporting research, safe-sleeping education and bereavement services.

Jimmy Barnes, The Wiggles, Kate Ceberano and Troy Cassar-Daley are among the Australian artists contributing to a new charity album supporting Red Nose Australia.

Released Saturday through Universal Music Australia, Cradle Rock: Songs for Little Lives features 11 original recordings addressing parenthood, grief, loss, resilience and safe sleeping. All proceeds will be donated to the charity.

The album was produced by Paul Field, the former manager of The Wiggles and singer with The Cockroaches. It continues an initiative he began 37 years ago following the death of his infant daughter, Bernadette, from sudden infant death syndrome.

Field organized the original Cradle Rock benefit concert in 1989, bringing together performers including Barnes, John Swan, Jon English and Mental As Anything to raise money for SIDS research.

“This album is an act of love by my friends on Cradle Rock,” Field said. “There are songs about the joy of parenthood, profound loss, determination, progress, grief and safe sleeping.”

According to Red Nose Australia, its evidence-based safe-sleeping campaigns have helped reduce the incidence of SIDS in Australia by more than 80 percent. The organization also funds research into miscarriage and stillbirth and provides specialist services to families following the death of a baby or child.

Barnes, who appeared at the original concert, contributes “Love Song” with John Rooney and Ruby Rodgers.

“I’ve known Paul for decades, and I’ve seen firsthand the passion, integrity and generosity he brings to everything he does,” Barnes said. “When he told me about Cradle Rock: Songs for Little Lives, there was no hesitation.”

The collection also includes recordings by Vika and Linda Bull, Melody Moko, Elly-May Barnes and Sean Sennett, The Field Brothers, Amber Lawrence and Lyn Bowtell.

Red Nose Australia CEO Amy Cooper said proceeds from the album would help the organization continue its education, research and bereavement programs across Australia.

“Paul has been one of Red Nose Australia’s most passionate and committed supporters for nearly 40 years,” Cooper said. “His willingness to share his family’s story has helped shine a light on the importance of safe-sleeping education, research and bereavement support.”
