The Australian singer celebrates his new album ‘Kicking My Feet & Screaming’ with an exclusive performance filmed in front of superfans.

Australian singer-songwriter Ruel has teamed up with YouTube Music and live-music series Mood on the Roof for an intimate warehouse performance celebrating his latest album, Kicking My Feet & Screaming.

Filmed in Sydney on August 25 before an invitation-only audience of superfans, the one-night-only concert premiered on Ruel’s YouTube channel on October 2 as the second Australian instalment of the YouTube Music Nights series.

Departing from Mood on the Roof’s signature rooftop setting, the performance was staged inside the collective’s warehouse studio on Gadigal Land, transforming the space into a gritty, high-energy rock venue.

Surrounded by fans on all sides, Ruel performed with a full band amid haze and strobe lighting, creating an atmosphere closer to a packed club show than a traditional filmed concert.

“This was one of those times when you have a fully planned concept in your head, but you have no idea if it can be turned into reality,” Ruel said.

“It was crazy that everyone involved in putting this event together seemed to have the exact same vision. What you’re seeing is what we imagined, but even better! The space, the people, the crowd, the atmosphere…everything looked and felt 100% on point.”

The performance was produced in collaboration with YouTube Music, Flagrant Artist Management and Mood on the Roof, with the full concert presented in 4K alongside individual song performances and a series of YouTube Shorts.

Marion Goodman-Briand, Manager of YouTube Music Australia and New Zealand, said the project reflected the platform’s longstanding relationship with the singer.

“We’ve loved championing Ruel since his very first uploads hit YouTube, and watching him grow into a global force who always puts his community first has been incredibly rewarding,” she said.

“Bringing Ruel to our YouTube Music Night series in this raw, intimate Sydney warehouse setting perfectly captures his multi-format artistry.”

Mood on the Roof founder and creative director Ben Develin said the unconventional setting was designed to capture the energy of a live rock show.

“We’d been wanting to shoot something grimier downstairs under the roof for ages, and the Ruel team came to us wanting a sweaty live set, the band basically in the crowd, the crowd practically on the kick drum,” Develin said.

“Ruel walked down the stairs straight off the roof and into the mosh, we packed the warehouse in the round, and it got properly sweaty. It’s easily one of my favourite things we’ve done.”

Born in the UK and raised in Sydney, Ruel first attracted international attention at 14, earning early support from Elton John and influential broadcaster Zane Lowe.

He has since accumulated more than three billion global streams, sold out multiple international tours and collaborated with artists including Lime Cordiale, Holly Humberstone, JVKE, SG Lewis and Denzel Curry.

The performance marks another milestone for the singer as he continues promoting Kicking My Feet & Screaming, bringing his latest material to a global audience through an unusually intimate live setting.
