Sir Tony Robinson Launches New History Series With Australia’s Radar Studios
Sir Tony Robinson is returning to the past — this time with an Australian production company behind him.
The Time Team presenter, actor and historian has partnered with Radar Studios to launch Tony Robinson Rewrites History, a new multi-platform history brand spanning YouTube, television and digital content.
The partnership was announced this week and will begin with a dedicated YouTube channel featuring 12 half-hour episodes, set to launch later this year.
A separate six-part, hour-long television series is also being developed, with Radar Studios preparing to introduce the project to international buyers at MIPCOM in Cannes next month.
The series will see Robinson revisit major moments from ancient history through to the modern era, exploring the personalities, political decisions, rivalries and unexpected events that helped shape the world.
Rather than simply recounting established historical narratives, the project will examine the accidents and moments of chance that altered the course of history.
For Robinson, it marks the latest chapter in a career that has spent decades making history accessible to mainstream audiences.
The British performer first became widely known for playing Baldrick opposite Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder, before becoming closely associated with factual television through programs including Time Team, which he presented for nearly two decades.
His relationship with Australia is also well established.
Robinson has previously fronted locally produced factual programs including Tony Robinson’s Time Walks, which explored the histories of Australian cities on foot, and Tony Robinson’s World by Rail.
The new partnership also represents a significant step for Radar Studios as it builds its original programming slate.
The Australian production company is positioning Tony Robinson Rewrites History as a project capable of operating across traditional television and creator-led digital platforms rather than treating the two as separate audiences.
That approach reflects a broader shift within factual entertainment, where established television personalities are increasingly able to build audiences directly through YouTube and other online platforms while continuing to develop projects for broadcasters and streamers.
Robinson will work with Radar Studios co-founder and executive producer Ben Davies on the project, with further programming planned around the new history brand.
The initial 12 episodes of Tony Robinson Rewrites History will launch on YouTube later this year, while the television series will be presented to international buyers at MIPCOM in October.
