Disney+ Names Sarah Christie to Lead Local Content in Australia and New Zealand
The Amazon MGM Studios executive will oversee commissioning and acquisitions, beginning in November.
Disney+ has appointed Sarah Christie as executive director of local content for Australia and New Zealand, bringing the executive behind a slate of Amazon originals including Deadloch, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart and The Narrow Road to the Deep North into its international content operation.
Commencing in November 2026, Christie will oversee Disney+’s local original content commissioning and acquisitions across both markets. Her remit includes leading the development and production of an ongoing slate of scripted and unscripted programming that reflects local audiences and connects with Disney’s broader international content strategy.
Christie will report to Jon Wax, executive vice president of international content at Disney Entertainment. She will also work closely with Carol Choi, executive vice president of integrated marketing and original strategy for Asia-Pacific, and Kylie Watson-Wheeler, senior vice president and managing director for Australia and New Zealand and head of ESPN for Asia-Pacific.
The appointment comes as Disney+ continues production on the third and final season of The Artful Dodger, its Australian premium scripted Hulu Original series. An upcoming docuseries from Maximum Effort following SailGP’s BONDS Flying Roos is also filming.
Christie joins from Amazon MGM Studios, where she served as head of local originals for Australia and New Zealand, overseeing projects across development, production and post-production.
Her commissioning and production experience spans comedy, drama and documentary. Titles she delivered at Amazon include Class of ’07, the first two seasons of Deadloch, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, The Office Australia, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, Top End Bub and Final Siren: Inside the AFL.
Her slate also included the recently commissioned Madness of Three, Free Spirits: The Backpacker Poisonings and a fourth season of cricket documentary series The Test.
That breadth of experience will carry into a Disney+ role encompassing both original productions and acquisitions, with responsibility for shaping the service’s ongoing local slate.
Before becoming head of local originals, Christie was senior development executive for Australia at Amazon Studios. She previously worked as development producer at Goalpost Pictures, managing the company’s film and television slate, and began her career as an entertainment lawyer.
