HBO Max Expands to New Zealand
HBO Max Expands New Zealand Reach Through Prime Video Partnership
HBO Max will launch in New Zealand on June 16 as a subscription offering through Prime Video, extending Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming footprint in the region and giving Kiwi audiences access to some of the industry’s most sought-after franchises and originals.
The deal means New Zealand customers will be able to subscribe to HBO Max directly within the Prime Video app, accessing content from HBO, Warner Bros., DC Studios, Harry Potter, Discovery and more without requiring a separate application or login.
The move follows the successful rollout of HBO Max through Prime Video in Australia and further strengthens Prime Video’s strategy of positioning itself as a one-stop entertainment hub.
Among the major titles available at launch will be HBO hits House of the Dragon, Euphoria, Succession and The White Lotus, alongside upcoming projects including the highly anticipated Harry Potter television adaptation, DC Studios’ Lanterns and the fourth season of The Gilded Age.
Subscribers will also gain access to Warner Bros. films including Wuthering Heights, One Battle After Another and Sinners, as well as Max Originals such as medical drama The Pitt and the upcoming comedy series Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, which premieres July 24.
Library favourites including Friends, The Big Bang Theory and Rick and Morty will also be available through the service.
The launch comes with introductory pricing designed to attract early adopters. Customers who subscribe before July 16 can access the Standard plan for NZ$10.99 per month for six months, discounted from the regular NZ$15.99 monthly price. The Premium tier will be available for NZ$15.99 per month during the same promotional period, down from NZ$20.99.
Alexandra Gilbert, Head of Content for Prime Video Australia and New Zealand, said the addition further expands the platform’s entertainment offering.
“Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming,” Gilbert said. “We’re thrilled to welcome HBO Max to Prime Video as our 26th subscription in New Zealand, growing our stellar entertainment catalogue and giving our customers an even greater selection of world-class series and blockbuster movies, all in one app experience.”
For Warner Bros. Discovery, the agreement marks another step in its regional streaming strategy.
“As we prepare to bring HBO Max to Kiwi audiences, it’s fantastic to extend our partnership with Prime Video into New Zealand,” said Shonali Bedi, Head of Strategy, Partnerships and Insights, APAC at Warner Bros. Discovery.
“Prime Video have been strong and collaborative partners for us, and the HBO Max subscription has been very successful in other markets, including Australia.”
The launch arrives at a busy period for Warner Bros. Discovery, with the third season of House of the Dragon premiering June 22 and a slate of major franchise-driven projects scheduled throughout the coming year.
HBO Max becomes Prime Video’s 26th subscription partner in New Zealand, joining a growing lineup of streaming services available through the platform alongside Amazon MGM Studios originals such as The Boys, The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Young Sherlock and Fallout.
The New Zealand launch marks another significant milestone in HBO Max’s international expansion as competition among streaming platforms intensifies across the Asia-Pacific region.
